I loved science ever since I was in high school, especially anything that had an emphasis on biology. As I entered university, I knew I wanted to go in a direction that combined my love of science but with some ability to use creativity. I have always enjoyed interacting with people and therefore I picked dentistry since it brought all those elements together.

MCA gave us the most amount of freedom in how we were going to run our business. They also gave us a platform to expand with like minded people in a friendly and professional atmosphere. There is support and structure without being too heavy handed and all decisions are collaborative. Also, it was important to partner up with another dentist that understood the focus should be on patient service and care.

The ability to serve patients and the end result of seeing their issues being solved. I also love how we develop that relationship and trust with them over time.

This has been an amazing and exciting experience to be able to see something grow from its beginning (the Capital Dentistry brand) and be able to put our mark on our own region is a rare opportunity. We are grateful to have that with MCA.

My uncle was a denturist so I would go to his lab and play with the extra teeth and wax. When I was four years old, I took the bold leap and told my mother I wanted to be a dentist not knowing the difference. Those times were greatly impactful as it instilled in me a passion for the artistic side of our profession. This, along with my keen interest in the health sciences throughout my education and the ability to foster rewarding relationships with people. All these elements plus knowing I could have a positive effect on their health were the strong motivators for me to become a dentist.

Generally, I have always enjoyed working collaboratively with my colleagues both on the clinical side but also in sustaining a healthy practice. Partnering with MCA allowed me to focus on my primary passion of clinical dentistry but also have the extensive support networks in place where I could venture into the growth side of our profession and business. I have always enjoyed mentoring associates and sharing with them my experiences over the past 15 years. Partnering with MCA has given me the opportunity to meet many new colleagues and be a small part of their professional growth which I find incredibly rewarding. MCA has several other dentists in integral leadership roles, and this was another key factor in deciding to partner with them as I knew there were many things we could easily relate to while maintaining our focus on excellent patient care.

My desire to meet new people and interact with them on a human level all the while building strong relationships so that I can help them maintain optimal oral and overall health. My desire to constantly evolve and learn and use my knowledge to help and treat my patients motivates me to have a long and rewarding career.

My experience with MCA has been incredibly enjoyable so far. The strong leadership and the sense of community across all the offices has been very rewarding to be a part of. MCA gave my partner and I a chance to grow our passion for dentistry into something bigger than we could imagine and the experience has far exceeded our expectations.

My path to dentistry was not conventional. In fact, when I started university, I thought I would end up a teacher. I completed my undergraduate degree at Trent University in French Literature. After I was done, I decided to head to France for a year to teach English as a second language. When I got back from France, I figured it was time to buckle down and get going on my path to becoming a teacher. That’s when I started my MA at the university of Montreal. After about a month, I realized this profession may not be for me. At the time, Mark had started his own dentistry practice and I was intrigued by how he spoke about his work, so I decided to spend some time shadowing him. I quickly decided that I wanted to be a dentist and went back to school, this time at McGill and completed my dentistry degree in 2009. In 2010, I went to work with Mark at Holland Cross and in 2012 we purchased the Aylmer practice.
I probably would not have thought about joining a DSO but as Mark and Ken looked to grow MCA and wanted practices in Quebec, they approached me. I thought it would be a good investment opportunity, but I still had to decide if this was what I wanted. Mark’s strongest character points are that he is generous and conscientious of the needs of his partners, so he wanted to make sure we were making the right decision that matched how I ultimately wanted to work. Although I have a great team in my clinic, they don’t have the diversity of skill sets that are available at MCA. It was important for me to be backed by a strong team at a higher level. Mark has always been a mentor to me, so I trusted his advice. Having a network of support staff, along with the professional association was something I wouldn’t be able to have access to on my own. I know I can count on the team at MCA to help me run the clinic efficiently and support initiatives around employee retention, marketing, etc.
Surgery. I love surgery and if I had started my studies earlier, I would have specialized in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. I love the medical aspect that I can get from dentistry. Other that that I love developing relationships with my patients. Knowing that I offered them a great service gives me immense satisfaction. It’s also important for me to give back to the community through mentorship of other dentists. Mark and I have also given free dental services to oncology patients at CHEO which just makes me incredibly proud about the work that we do.
